Summit FAQ's


Who should attend the 2017 National Summit?  Most of the summit is designed primarily for staff and managers of OEN member programs and for those utilizing a train-the-trainer and gear library/support model.  However, the National Summit Special Reception on Thursday evening is open to ALL and will be a terrific celebration of our national effort to get young people outdoors!  Please check the Summit Agenda for details regarding sessions and ask if you are interested in attending. 

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?
If you're flying, San Francisco is the airport with the most convenient transportation to the Summit site.  Our host, and local member organization, Bay Area Wilderness Training, has put together some travel support documents.  Please review.  Plenty of Parking is also available at the Pt. Bonita YMCA if you choose to rent a car. 

What time should I arrive at Pt. Bonita and when will I be departing?
A casual welcome dinner of vegan chili, beer and wine will be available from 6pm on Tuesday, and programming ends at 1pm on Friday, 

Is lodging included?
Yes, lodging includes shared dorm style accommodations, but participants are asked to bring sleeping bags, pillows and towels. 

What else do I need to bring?
Casual clothes (warm can be foggy and windy on the coast, or plenty warm from one day to the next) for daytime, shoes for a hike, water bottle and something nice to wear to the Thursday night reception and lighthouse tour.  

In addition to a notebook, materials about your organization and/or program to share, and a thumb-drive with the slides/photos for your Program Share, a full list of suggested things to bring includes: 

  • Sleeping Bag/Linens Change(s) of Clothes Warm Jacket
  • Pillow w/pillow case
  • 2 pairs of shoes
  • Raincoat
  • Pajamas/Sweats Extra socks!
  • Hat
  • Towel & Wash-cloth Toiletries Soap/Shampoo
  • Sunscreen (#15 or higher) Sunglasses Flashlight
